South African National Defence Force (SANDF) chief, General Solly Shoke says the South African National Defence Force is taking serious financial strain and may lose some of its capabilities if it does not receive a cash injection.
Shoke held a media briefing on Tuesday to address issues surrounding the SANDF.
The defence force suffered a budget cut of R5.8 billion this year.
Shoke joined Joanne Joseph on the Afternoon Drive.
We are facing serious challenges given the mandate that has been given to us by the country and our principles. If we do not get a cash injection soon we might likely lose certain capabilities.— Solly Shoke, SANDF Chief
We are trying to do our level best with the little that is at our disposal but if nothing is done now, the future is going to catch up with us.— Solly Shoke, SANDF Chief
Shoke says they have approached Treasury for more assistance.
Our budget has been reduced drastically over a period of years because we have other competing interests to address in the country, however that may be, we are beginning to feel the constraints.— Solly Shoke, SANDF Chief
