#TotalShutdown organiser Loyiso Saliso says today's march is about women and for women.

Women around the country are embarking on a national shutdown against gender-based violence.

Loyiso Saliso the organiser of the #TotalShutdown march says this is an important day because women will be breaking their silence and speaking in one voice.

It's the first time in South Africa where women will be shutting down the country because of gender-based violence and femicide.

Loyiso Saliso, #TotalShutdown organiser

READ: Call for women to join the #TotalShutdown march against gender based violence

Even if you have never been a victim of gender-based violence, never is a long time. Right now in the country, we are living in a time that no matter how high your walls are or how little your shack is, none of us is immune to gender-based violence or femicide. We are not safe in even in our own homes, at work or even in the streets where people are around us.

Loyiso Saliso, #TotalShutdown organiser

Men, stay away from the march. We don't want you in the ground. This is our safe space.
