A group of elderly people from Alexandra township outside Johannesburg are protesting at Luthuli House over land issues.
According to EWN reporter Thando Kubheka, these elderly people claim that they were forcibly removed from their land by the apartheid government and were never given their land back when the ANC came into power.
They are saying they've been calling on government, urging them to be given back what is rightfully theirs but their cries have been falling on deaf ears. Which is why they have gathered outside Luthuli house to raise their concerns.— Thando Kubheka, EWN Reporter
They are saying a process was started with Paul Mashatile to either be compensated or be given alternative accommodation but nothing has been done since then.— Thando Kubheka, EWN Reporter
According to Kubheka, these elderly people are accusing the government of leaving them out in the cold while other people receive title deeds.
Khubheka says a memorandum of grievances will be handed over to the ANC as well as to the Human Settlement department in Gauteng.
