SABC can't afford to air Bafana Bafana and Banyana Banyana matches says SAFA

The South African Football Association (SAFA) says the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) can no longer afford to broadcast Bafana Bafana or Banyana Banyana games.

According to TimesLive, negotiations between the two have reached a stalemate as the SABC owes Safa over R50-million from a previous agreement.

The news follows an announcement by the SABC that it will not broadcast Premier Soccer League (PSL) matches, after unsuccessful negotiations with the PSL to secure the broadcast rights for soccer matches on radio.

Sports Editor at Times Media Group Digital, Mninawa Ntloko shares the details on the latest developments.

Safa is saying that the SABC cannot afford to pay for the rights to Bafana Bafana, Banyana Banyana matches, as well as the other national teams linked to the Safa property of national teams.

SABC says they do not have money to enter into a new agreement, instead they are only willing to go back to the table if they reduce the original amount significantly...this effectively means the Bafana Nations Cup qualifier in September/October, will not be [aired] on the public broadcaster.
