Christmas comes early for less fortunate children

The Santa Shoebox Project kicked off on 1 August, meaning Christmas will be coming early for the less fortunate.

So far over 35 000 gift boxes have been p[ackaged.

Project coordinator of the Kidz2Kidz Santa Shoebox Project, Irene Pieters explains why they had to start early this year.

The reason we moved it forward is that a lot of recipients are schools which means that they go on holiday making git difficult for us to get the boxes to the children. The main thing is to make sure that each child gets a box

Another reason is that we depend on sponsorships and it gets a little crazy at the end of the year for them to support us.

We believe some of the facilities will keep the boxes till Christmas day but some of them will hand them out a bit earlier so there is no risk of the box not reaching the child.

The project has also made it easier for people to pledge. They have launched the Santa Shoebox App where people can track a box from the time of pledging to the minute it reaches the specific child you made the box for.
