Carte Blanche's Devi Sankaree-Govender hits the 25-year milestone in media

Investigative journalist Devi Sankaree-Govender marks 25 years in the media industry next month.

She sat down with Azania Mosaka to reflect on some of her best interviews and what's contributed to her being one of the most influential journalists in South Africa.

Sankaree-Govender got her first big break with Lotus FM, presented shows like Eastern Mosaic and even had an editing job with the Sunday Times.

I wrote a column which ran for 16 years. I wanted to have my finger in every single pie but it also gets to a point where you realise ok, this is brain damage now.

She shares her life story, some of the lessons she has drawn from her parents and what makes her a strict mother.

The need to look at what is wrong and what is wrong. Honesty because you are going to get caught in a lie - that is the first thing you learn when you are little. Education.

I am pretty strict [as a mother] because I think we are surrounded by entitlement and I see that. I am also quite a cuddly mommy.
