Home Affairs says some of its services are back online

Acting Home Affairs Director- General Thulani Mavuso says the department is working to get its entire system up and running again.

Offices nationwide experienced a system shutdown due to a power failure at the State Information Technology Agency (Sita) on Friday which affected a range of services.

Mavuso says one component has been restored.

We have now restored the National Population Register, so people wanting death, marriage certificates, those we are able to process and those who are collecting their passports can get them.

The only part is the application component which relates to the biometrics. That is the one we are trying to bring up.
