In the wellness feature, #WeekendBreakfast host Phemelo Motene chats to psychologist, coach and teacher Yasmeen Engelbrecht about the next step after identifying authentic desire.
Engelbrecht says that after we have identified our authentic desire, we need to check if the association of what we want is harmful.
If our goal is to make money, very often, there's a part of us that makes certain negative associations which are linked to making money she says.
Particularly, with people of colour, we make associations to money by saying that people who have money are cruel, people who have money are snobs, or money in itself is evil.— Yasmeen Engelbrecht, psychologist, coach and teacher
In our country, with our particular history, is it even possible not to have negative associations with money and power.— Yasmeen Engelbrecht, psychologist, coach and teacher
Engelbrecht says that there's a part of us that holds these negative associations which ultimately prevents us from making money.
She adds that a lot of us watch our parents try make money, but we hold these associations due to our history.
There's this conscious part of you that wants what it wants, but we need to make sure that the other part of you don't have a different view because this can impact what you want says the psychologist.
