Former NDPP Mxolisi Nxasana says he didn't know the payout he received was a golden handshake.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has less than 90 days to appoint the new National Director of Public Prosecutions.

On Monday, The Constitutional Court found former prosecutions boss Mxolisi Nxasana's settlement and NPA head Shaun Abrahams' subsequent appointment was constitutionally invalid.

I did stand my ground when I was put under pressure by former President Jacob Zuma.

If you listen to the judgment, both judgments penned by the majority court as well as the minority, they both expressed the view that a lot of pressure was put on me but I relentlessly stood my ground until the last moment.

It had become apparent to me that the President did not want me anymore there at the National Prosecuting Authority.

Firstly, I didn't know it was a golden handshake. Secondly, I didn't know it was improper.

They are talking about me as the head of the NPA. They say the people who were involved in the settlement agreement knew a lot about me and the former President Jacob Zuma and I'm being criticised.

But there is also another person who is the minister of Justice Michael Masutha who was also a signatory to that agreement. He is holding his office and nobody is challenging his involvement in that agreement which is what I don't understand.

Advocate Pikoli also left but nobody is questioning that payout.
