Stellenbosch University Tygerberg Campus has announced that its premises have been declared the first smoke and tobacco-free campus in South Africa.
Professor Nico Gey van Pittius says as the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) the wanted to pride themselves as being the first campus maintaining the nature of their work, which is providing a healthy and safe environment to students and staff.
This includes the promotion of good lifestyle and of course that includes not smoking and not using tobacco or any other drugs.— Professor Nico Gey van Pittius, Vice Dean: Research at the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences

Van Pittius says the response to this declaration has been positive from both staff and students.
He says people are realising that the world is changing and that smoking is no longer good for them.
