'We are almost done with the Farlam Commission recommendation on Marikana'

Police Minister Bheki Cele says they are not far from honouring and completing the recommendations by the Farlam Commision of Inquiry.

The Commission laid the blame at the feet of the police and recommended an investigation as to whether police exceeded the bounds of self and private defence in shooting the strikers.

About 44 miners lost their lives at the hands of police at the Lonmin Platinum Mine in the North-West.

Most of us wish we would not speak about this day because it would be good if it did not happen. We really wish and work hard that it doesn't happen again.

Bheki Cele, Police Minster

I think we have tried, we might not have made any announcements, but I think we are very close in trying to fulfill and honour all Farlam's suggestions and proposals and in the present future I believe we will be able to make the final pronouncement of the matter.

Bheki Cele, Police Minster

Cele says the recommendations made by a panel of experts will not be ignored but will be thoroughly implemented.

The law will take its course over people who are responsible for the deaths of the miners, he says.

Al those recommendations that have been made by a panel of experts who have just given the report to us will be implemented.

Bheki Cele, Police Minster

If the law follows and finds out that there are more people to be charged, the full might of the law will have to be implemented and everybody who is supposed to answer will have to answer.
