Search for Cape Town Mayor kicks off

Prof Erwin Schwella, Professor of Public Leadership at Stellenbosch University says it seems there's now some stability within the Democratic Alliance after the battle with Patricia de Lille which he says damaged the party's reputation.

The DA is now looking for a new leader to take over the helm of the City.

It seems as if behind the scenes there's an attempt to manage a particular set of issues.

The process to elect the new mayor has begun and Schwella says those interested on the vacant post can start applying but they should be DA members in good standing.

This is a process which is legitimised by FedEx and done legally. People can now apply, if you are a DA member in good standing, and there will be a shortlist process after which candidates will be announced and there will be an election group which consists of FedEx members and some members of the DA who will then give an indication who the new mayor would be.

It is very unlikely that anybody in the current DA caucus will be the candidate nominated and the reason for that is that it will involve a further round of groupies in caucus....
