Former deputy finance minister Mcebisi Jonas testified at the Zondo Commission of inquiry of how he was offered R600 million to take over the finance ministry.
Jonas detailed what happened when he was invited to Saxonwold for a meeting at the Guptas home who are friends of former president Jacob Zuma.
Associate editor at Tiso Blackstar Ranjeni Munusamy says Jonas has been dropping bombshell after bombshell, in terms of his testimony.
She says Jonas revealed how the Guptas told him that they had made R6 billion from the state and they needed his help to increase that to R8 billion.
He said that the things the Guptas were telling him were making him very angry and as he was leaving, then Mr Gupta threatened to kill him if he ever revealed what happened.— Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar
We got a sense of the kind of pressure Mr Jonas was under at that period.— Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar
Jonas told the commission that the Guptas told him that 'they were in control of everything the NPA, the Hawks, the intelligence agency and the old man ( Jacob Zuma) does everything we tell him'.
I think that our nation really needs to confront what were the political circumstances that led to such a thing being able to take place.— Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar
