State Capture Inquiry

#StateCaptureInquiry continues with Mentor on the stand

The #StateCaptureInquiry resumed on Tuesday with former African National Congress (ANC) MP Vytjie Mentor back on the stand.

The commission has, since this morning, been dealing with applications of those who were implicated in testimonies to cross-examine witnesses.

Speaking to Clement Manyathela on The Midday Report, Tiso Blackstar associate editor, Ranjeni Munusamy says the deputy chief justice has not made a decision on the applications.

He has deferred the decision to later this week and all those who want to cross-examine witnesses have to basically make applications to the commission.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar associate editor

You can see from what the legal team is saying, they are saying that this is a commission of inquiry and not a court of law. So people are not entitled to simply cross-examine the witnesses and it is actually a privilege.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar associate editor

They should not only apply to do so they should be will to come and give a counter version.

Ranjeni Munusamy, Tiso Blackstar Associate Editor

Munusamy adds that Mentor has been on the stand for several hours.

She basically got into the essence of her allegations of how the Gupta's attempted to capture her.
