Police discharged stun grenades at the community of Bonteheuwel protesting against gangsterism.
The community members blocked the main road in the area and the police warned the group to move before opening fire.
Eyewitness News reporter Shamiela Fisher was at the scene and she explains what happened.
According to the information we have received, the permit they have received to march was that they do so on the sidewalks; they do not obstruct traffic or pedestrians making use of the road.— Shamiela Fisher, EWN Reporter
According to the police they did not adhere to that. They did not only obstruct justice but they caused problems. They were therefore warned and asked to move out of the road and they didn't adhere. That is when the stun grenades were fired.— Shamiela Fisher, EWN Reporter
At this point, it's unclear if there were any injuries. According to the organiser, three people were arrested but the police have not yet confirmed this.— Shamiela Fisher, EWN Reporter
