[LISTEN] Gigaba, Nene and Judge Davis appear before the Nugent Commission
Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene says he gave commissioner Tom Moyane the blessing to restructure Sars because he believed it would yield positive results.
Nene, former finance minister Malusi Gigaba and Judge Dennis Davis testified at the Nugent Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria on Friday.
Eyewitness News reporter Barry Bateman was there.
Nene was there on a very narrow issue, to discuss the consultancy firm which had proposed the restructuring at Sars - claimed that there had been support for the restructuring. The commission was testing that claim.Barry Bateman, EWN reporter
What Judge Davis was telling us is that he did not understand Baines motivation for changing this radical restructuring at Sars, he said there were, of course, certain issues like any organisation but all that was needed was a little bit of tinkering. He said the effect was taking something that was not broken and breaking it, restructuringBarry Bateman, EWN reporter
