State Capture Inquiry

Phumla Williams: I was tortured by Faith Muthambi

The acting director-general of GCIS, Phumla Williams continued giving her testimony at the Zondo Commission of inquiry into state capture at Parktown in Johannesburg.

According to Bonga Dlulane, EWN reporter, Williams told the commission that she was tortured by the then minister of communication Faith Muthambi by taking all her powers and demoting her.

She says that she been acting DG for the past six years. Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo asked her if the president knew that she had been acting DG for the past six years to which she replied he did.

She is just recounting why that position was not filled for the past six years and what happened with Faith Muthambi and also the Jimmy Manyi issue on how everything during his tenure was diverted to those TNA (The New Age) breakfasts which cost millions of rands.

Dlulane says both Duduzane Zuma and the Guptas have applied to the commission to cross-examine the witnesses.

He says it looks like the two won't be testifying. The commission will look into the availability of those who have implicated Zuma and the Guptas for state capture and make time for the cross-examination.

President Cyril Ramaphosa will not be applying to cross-examine the witnesses as he says "evidence does not implicate him ethically or criminally".
