Gauteng MEC of Infrastructure Development Jacob Mamabolo says when they received complains about the condition of the building, they commissioned a condition assessment.

That happened last year in August, to try to find out what is the condition of government-owned buildings, if there is anything we need to fix, what is it and what is the degree and extent of non-compliance.

Jacob Mamabolo, Gauteng MEC of Infrastructure Development

He says that report came out last week and it pointed out the fact that the Bank of Lisbon is non-compliant.

We are studying the report about the other seven buildings and we still need to do a deeper assessment and look at it.

Jacob Mamabolo, Gauteng MEC of Infrastructure Development

He adds that based on that report, they are able to list what needs to be done in the buildings to reach a level of compliance.

He says there is a meeting planned that will look at the report and those buildings that don't comply would need to be evacuated.

City of Johannesburg MMC for Public Safety Michael Sun says they are extremely concerned with the fire that is still continuing.

Last night the wind picked up in the Joburg CBD and we saw the fire that was on the 23rd floor extending to the 16th floor.
