Family of Denel 8 asked to give DNA samples to identify victims

According to EWN reporter Kevin Brandt, details from Rheinmetall Denel Munition are still not clear about what caused the explosion at their plant in Macassar that killed eight people.

They say the entire unit where propellant mixing takes place has collapsed as a result of the blast's intensity.

Officials, including State Security Minister Dipuo Letsatsi-Duba accompanied by the chairperson of Denel visited the depot on Tuesday.

They told members of the press that family members of the deceased have already received counselling.

We were also told that family members have to give DNA samples for the remains of the victims to be identified and the results will be made available next week.

There hasn't been complete closure for the families in terms of knowing that indeed it was their family members that died during the blast.

The company said they will be offering the families support throughout this process.
