An Associate Professor at the University at the Western Cape (UWC) has received global recognition for her contributions to the astronomy field.
Professor Carolina Ödman has been acknowledged for her pioneering work in astronomy outreach, development and education, according to UWC.
Prof Ödman was recently awarded a Special IAU Prize by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Austria.
She has committed herself to inspire young children to take an interest in astronomy and physical sciences through various programmes.
She discusses developments in South Africa such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) project, a collaborative astronomy installation will help advance research efforts on the continent.
