READ:Call for probe after Joburg government building blaze leaves 3 firefighters dead

In order to prevent work accidents and other health problems among the employees, it is important, that both employers and workers contribute to ensuring the safety of their working environment.

Chief Inspector in the Department of Labour Tibor Tszana says an inspector does an inspection of a building and based on that opinion notice may be served.

In the event of any danger, the inspector will then serve a prohibition notice either to a part of the workplace or to the workplace itself stating that no person may work in that vicinity of the area they are prohibiting.

Tibor Tszana, Chief Inspector in the Department of Labour

He adds that the prohibition notice can be withdrawn once the employer complies with the requirements of the notice.

And in this case, I believe that the notice was withdrawn at a certain stage unless of cause the inspector had gone back and re-instituted a second notice.

Tibor Tszana, Chief Inspector in the Department of Labour
