Should the Guptas be given special treatment to testify abroad?

Zondo Comission of inquiry

Karyn Maughn says the Zondo Commission is set to decide whether they will grant permission for the Guptas to testify via video.

The legal teams for the Guptas and Duduzane Zuma want a chance to question witnesses, some of whom have put them at the centre of plans to loot the public purse.

They want to cross-examine witnesses, including former government spokesperson Themba Maseko and ex-African National Congress MP Vytie Mentor and former Deputy Finance Minister Mcebisi Jonas, however, it seems that they don't want to be cross-examined.

Specialist reporter at Tiso Blackstar Karyn Maughan says the argument is around Ajay Gupta and Rajesh Gupta having both made applications to cross-examine the witnesses.

According to the Hawks the Guptas are saying they have no clarification on this, and been defined as a fugitive from justice.

The family have indicated that they will not be returning to the country to give that evidence and they are only prepared to give it via video or for the commission to come to them.
