PSL and Saps launch joint initiative to help reduce soccer hooliganism

The Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced a partnership with the South African Police Service (Saps) in an effort to eradicate violence and vandalism at stadiums.

The partnership will be through the Multichoice Diski Challenge (MDC) games where the police will come in their numbers to offer crime-prevention services to the community.

Speaking to Africa Melane, standing in for Bongani Bingwa, Minister of Police Bheki Cele explains the police perspective of focusing on youth in sport.

Youth is a very contested terrain so we need to keep them within the prospect of the community and on the side of the community rather than allow them to be taken by the gangsters.
