Metrorail shocked by criminals robbing and throwing commuters off a moving train

Western Cape Regional Manager at Metrorail, Richard Walker has confirmed that at least one person has died and others injured when they were thrown off a moving train after they were robbed on Friday night.

Walker says a group of armed men got on the train between Eerste Rivier and Lynedoch stations and started robbing people on the train of their belongings.

Eight people were taken to different hospitals, three to Stellebosch hospital and five to Heidelberg hospital

We are saddened by the death of a commuter and horrified of the fact that after robbing these defenceless commuters they were then thrown off a moving train.

The lives of people actually mean nothing to these criminals and thugs who are responsible for this.

Walker says that they are working closely with the police in making sure that the people responsible face the full might of the law.

He says the family of the deceased will be visited on Monday by Metrorail officials and the victims of this incident will be offered counselling.
