READ: Three firefighters dead in Johannesburg building fire

City of Joburg Mayor Herman Mashaba says the city faces massive challenges.

Mashaba says the city is not fully equipped to deal with fires after the Bank of Lisbon Building in the CBD caught fire earlier last week.

Johannesburg emergency services are continuing to monitor some of the 'hotspots' at the building.

Herman Mashaba, City of Johannesburg Mayor

Buildings have been ignored and neglected for many years where there has been the breakdown of the total rule of law including even government itself.

He adds that when he raised these matters, senior government officials called him names.
