Call for Eskom to publicise terms of R33bn China loan

Pressure mounts for Eskom and President Cyril Ramaphosa, as DA’s leader Mmusi Maimane has requested that Eskom publicise the terms of the R33bn China loan.

The details surrounding the loan secured by state-owned companies Eskom from the Chinese state banks have been shrouded in secrecy since the 10th Brics Summit which was held in Johannesburg.

Senior researcher on China-Africa at the South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) Cobus Van Staden says he supports the DA's call.

We need a lot more transparency on these issues especially in relation to the terms of the loan and the payback time of the loan.
