Sabric data indicates that crime is worse than what police stats show

The South African Police Service’s latest crime statistics are inaccurate, says the South African Banking Risk Information Centre (Sabric).

Saps claims 238 heists took place between 1 April 2017 and 31 March 2018.

Sabric, however, recorded 385 heists.

There are also discrepancies in the crime-detection figures; crimes the public reports; murders and attempted murders‚ according to Unisa criminologist Rudolph Zinn.

The Money Show’s Bruce Whitfield interviewed Sabric CEO Kalyani Pillay and Gwarega Manghoze, CEO at Consumer Goods Council of SA.

Listen to the interviews in the audio below (and/or scroll down for quotes from it).

I’m fairly bullish that we’re going to win this war.

Gwarega Manghoze, Consumer Goods Council of SA

The figures are different, but the trend is certainly the same… Police record them differently than us…

Kalyani Pillay, Sabric
