[LISTEN] SAHRC holds hearings into the sale of expired goods
The South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) has been holding hearings into the sale of expired goods.
The commission was made aware of recent violence and looting in Soweto and surrounding townships, based on allegations that foreign-owned shops had been selling expired or counterfeit goods.
Eyewitness News reporter, Ahmed Kajee was at Wednesday's hearings where the Somali Community Board and other organisations representing foreign owned shops were present.
They have stated that the places where they are buying these goods are reputable places and if there happens to be a doctoring of expiry dates it is from these suppliers.Ahmed Kajee, EWN reporter
They also say that they happen to be excluded from any township revitalisation programmes saying there is poor implementation by officials and therefore this increases the tensions between locals and foreign nationals, just due to the fact that government officials are not implementing bylaws efficiently.Ahmed Kajee, EWN reporter
