[LISTEN] The face of foetal alcohol syndrome

Former 702 producer and now executive producer at the Full View Megan Lubke has been dubbed journalist of the year at the South African Breweries Responsible Drinking Awards for her radio documentary on foetal alcohol syndrome and the problem of substance abuse in Eldorado Park.

Lubke followed the story of a young mother, Jade who battled alcoholism after being raped by her father at the age of 15. Having given birth to six children, Jade shares the story of how she drank heavily at the beginning of each pregnancy.

The documentary won in the category for commercial radio.

Lubke joined Eusebius McKaiser in studio to share more on the story.

South Africa has the highest prevalence of foetal alcohol syndrome in the world. That is more than 14 times the global average. We have a crisis.
