Mineral Resources Minister Gwede Mantashe says the new Mandela Mining Precinct is a game changer.

The precinct launched on Friday is aimed at finding solutions to problems and challenges the mining industry is facing.

Research is always a game changer, so innovation is good for us. Half the time we fear technology because we say it destroys jobs but it does not necessarily do that. If you modernise but create new types of jobs and skill people for those jobs, you do not lose jobs.

People talk negatively about mining. The reason people are skeptical about mining is because the industry itself is required to change its narrative about itself and begin to explain what is positive about mining.
