State Capture Inquiry

#StateCaptureInquiry shocking revelations by Standard Bank

Standard Bank’s head of compliance Ian Sinton was the first witness from the banking sector to testify at the Zondo Commission of Inquiry into State Capture on Monday.

The commission is focusing on the closure of Gupta accounts by some of the country's biggest banks.

Sinton told the commission that some of the bank's executives were summoned to Luthuli House to explain the decision to terminate Gupta-linked bank accounts.

Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (Cosac) Executive Secretary Lawson Naidoo says Stinton's testimony certainly implicated the African National Congress (ANC) directly.

Given the testimony of Mr Stinton on behalf of Standard Bank, which directly implicated Gwede Mantashe, Jessie Duarte and Enoch Godongwana who attended that meeting with Standard Bank having been summoned to that meeting.
