The Dros restaurant group has issued a statement confirming an alleged rape of a 6-year-old girl at one of its restaurants in Pretoria.
In the statement, Dros acknowledges the incident and says that they are trying to support the family at this time.
The group adds that the police should be left to conduct an investigation into the matter, reports EWN's Bonga Dlulane.
Dlulane says that the restaurant group was not willing to go into details of the alleged incident.
However, it is reported that a 20-year-old man was found naked in the men's toilet with the little girl also undressed and bleeding from the groin.
The man will be appearing in court on the 2nd of October and we will see what happens. A lot of people are angry about the situation, there was a bit of mob justice when he was found at the restaurant so we don't know about the bail application...— Bonga Dlulane, EWN reporter
Will he apply for bail, will the NPA oppose it, which is likely to happen...— Bonga Dlulane, EWN reporter
Reports of the sexual assault first surfaced on Facebook and reported by Netwerk24:
"I'm at Dros in Silverton en this man jus raped a six-year-old in the toilet…police are here, she is bleeding…the guy looks 24…apparently he was scouting her while she was playing in the kids area en waited for her to go to the toilet"
This is a shocking statement from Dros about the girl that was raped at Dros in Silverton. It lacks empathy and uses sanitised language about "an incident involving a minor child" almost as if she had agency.— Eusebius McKaiser (@Eusebius) September 26, 2018
Zero compassion & examination of whether the place is child friendly. pic.twitter.com/prme7C5LW5
