Two whistleblowers known as Stan and John lifted the hard drives containing the Gupta leaks.

The Zondo Commission of Inquiry has taken possession of hard-drives containing hundreds of thousands of leaked Gupta emails.

It's considered to be a critical mountain of evidence supporting the undoing of the controversial family in South Africa.

Chilling testimony was given by state witness Brian Currin on Thursday, as he told the Zondo Commission of Inquiry that the country owes two whistleblowers, known simply as Stand and John, a “huge debt".

Currin said the two men are living in hiding and have started new lives outside South Africa as they are fearful for their lives hence they won't be testifying.

Currin testified about the contents of three hard drives, known as the "Gupta Leaks".

The original plan was to sort of process the leaks outside of the country and then publish a whole lot of information in one go.

But when the leaks came out, then we had to get the whole team together, our particular team was made up of amaBhungane, The Daily Maverick and News24.

But you will remember that portions of the leaks had also been given to City Press and had also been given to the Sunday Times. So there were sort of various groups in the country working on the information.
