Trump's 'sh*thole' gaff leads to dip in popularity

The Norman Lear Centre at the University of Southern California has published its latest report on how Trump's (Sh!thole) remarks about Africa affected public sentiment.

The centre partnered with Cape Town-based BrandsEye to provide them with opinion data for the report.

A team of human verifiers evaluated over 45 000 public tweets between 4 – 23 January 2018.

Chief Marketing Officer at BrandsEye N_ic Reysays there was a significant 66% increase in negative sentiment towards Trump after he made this remarks about Africa. This also increased conversations about Africa by 3000 %, says Rey. Read: Presidency to seek clarity from US embassy over Trump tweet_

The disappointing thing is that many Americans missed the opportunity to say something good about Africa and the vibrant amazing continent that we are.

They used the opportunity to denigrate Trump if you are a Democrat or support him if you are a Republican.

Rey adds that almost all of the tweets following Trump's remarks show that Americans know very little about Africa.

Americans know so little about Africa they would find it very difficult to actually substantiate their comments whether positive or negative.
