Should Nene go? Here's what SA's political heavyweights have to say

President Cyril Ramaphosa has yet to respond to mounting calls to fire Finance Minister Nhlanhla Nene.

Nene admitted to meeting the controversial Gupta family at their Saxonwold residence at the state capture commission of inquiry last week.

Questions have also been raised about a PIC deal involving Nene's son, while he was chairman of the PIC.

Nene apologised on Friday for his previously undisclosed meetings with Guptas, but it seems many South Africans are divided on what his future should be.

Meanwhile, there have been reports that Nene approached Ramaphosa at the weekend asking to be relieved of his duties.

Here's what South Africa's political figures have been saying about #Nene on Twitter:

The DA's Phumzile Van Damme says firing Nene will set a precedent for other Cabinet members to be sacked too.

Public intellectual and activist Prof Jonathan Jansen says Nene should be given a second chance.

BLF president Andile Mngxitama says it's only matter of time before he gets shown the door.

Patriotic Alliance leader Gayton McKenzie suggests that firing Nene may be a liability for the ANC.
