Public Policy Specialist TK Pooe talks to Karima Brown about the latest development in the party's provincial branch.

On Monday, the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West confirmed ANC provincial spokesperson Supra Mahumapelo has decided to withdraw from the provincial task team (PTT).

The task team was established last month, to consult widely to unite the organisation ahead of the 2019 elections. This after the ANC disbanded the provincial leadership.

The North West was placed under administration in May after public unrest over the leadership of the former premier.

Karima Brown spoke to Public Policy Specialist TK Pooe on this latest development and what it means for the party.

What we still have to remember is he still does have a certain pull and until that pull is audited and gutted out in the right way, I don't think it's going to help closer to the election and it is raising the question, going forward what is the ANC in the North West going to look like and is President Cyril Ramaphosa willing to invest political capital to actually fix the ANC in the North West.

TK Pooe, Public Policy Specialist

At the moment he [Ramaphosa] doesn't strike me as fully understanding the processes of politics. One might say he is repeating the same mistake that the former president Mbeki did, being that the institution of the presidency protects you from the politics.

TK Pooe, Public Policy Specialist

He should not really have to be with someone like Supra Mahumapelo who though he might be a political heavy weight in his province, it is a political heavy weight which has been manufactured by basic neglect of the ANC and I think the president should have done a better job and done an audit to say how deep is the rot...
