Who guards the gatekeepers?

Is the tail wagging the dog in terms of the information that the media is fed and then publishes?

Does the media do enough to investigate why sources give the media exclusive information?

Does the media question those sources motives and what are the media's own motives?

After several instances of news media being implicated in the country’s state capture scandal, Caxton Professor of Journalism at Wits University, Anton Harber, says the industry needs an inquiry of its own.

Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, Harber says there are some media, some journalists who emerged heroes for cracking open state capture through Guptaleaks.

But there is other media that has been compromised in one form or another by the state capture project and we need to face up to and deal with that.

We had media like New Age and ANN7 the TV channel that was set up specifically to further the Gupta state capture project.
