The Democratic Alliance (DA) on Monday shared its election plan with premier candidate Solly Msimanga, saying that the issue of undocumented migrants is a ticking time bomb.
Over the past couple of years, you would have also heard from City of Johannesburg Mayor Herman Mashaba criticising government’s inaction over undocumented migrants in the city.
Is the DA stoking xenophobic fires with their stance on immigration?
Speaking to Bongani Bingwa, D spokesperson on immigration for the elections Jacques Julius commented.
No country in the world can allow its borders to be a free for all.— Jacques Julius, DA’s spokesperson on immigration for the elections
This is currently the status quo of some of our borders in South Africa. Corruption at our border posts, our officials are letting people in for bribes and there is corruption even at Home Affairs offices.— Jacques Julius, DA’s spokesperson on immigration for the elections
He adds that the DA's message addresses the underlying issues that they can finally put to an end to xenophobia for good.
We want South Africans to see foreign nationals as partners in the project of growing our economy and building a brighter future for all. This will only happen when we can be sure that our borders are not a free for all.— Jacques Julius, DA’s spokesperson on immigration for the elections
