Cops arrested for murder of TUT student due in court on Tuesday

The two police officers arrested in connection with the murder of Tshwane University of Technology (TUT) student Katlego Monareng will appear in court on Tuesday.

Monareng was shot dead in August during a violent protest at the Soshanguve North campus.

IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini has confirmed that they have arrested a constable who was directly involved in the shooting and the captain who gave the directive to shoot.

The two will appear tomorrow at the Soshanguve Magistrate's Court on a charge of murder.

They are from Soshanguve Police Station and were deployed to the police the protesting on the day of the shooting.

Dlamini says their investigations showed that the report submitted by the police does not collaborate with the facts of the incident.
