Editor in Chief of News24 Adriaan Basson says Mayor of Cape Town Patricia de Lille might call the deal with the DA off and withdraw her resignation at the end of October.
This is because the DA did not honour its side of the deal following Bowman Gilfillan’s report which was released while De Lille was in the UK.
Basson says the DA is proceeding with actions against De Lille based on this latest report.
(It's an) absolute mess for the DA. This was going to be a mess because political settlements don't work. You can't just brush to the side forensic evidence of alleged wrongdoing and say we just need to move on as a party.— Adriaan Basson, Editor in Chief of News24
This is a big blow for Mmusi Maimane because Cape Town DA is fighting back against the national leadership.— Adriaan Basson, Editor in Chief of News24
Basson says as a leader, Maimane can make such deals but the problem arises when he doesn't have the support of his party's caucus.
What Maimane is asking from councillors in Cape Town is to just discard a forensic report because he made a political deal and that is backfiring spectacularly at the moment.— Adriaan Basson, Editor in Chief of News24
