#MTBPS2018 'We cannot sit back and pretend that things are okay'

Treasury Director General Dondo Mogajane says government is at a cross roads and that tough choices need to be made over South Africa's economy.

Finance Minister Tito Mboweni delivered his budget policy speech in Parliament on Wednesday.

There has been mixed reaction over the Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement (MTBPS) with opposition parties flagging growing debt.

Speaking on the Karima Brown Show, Mogojane says

Our debt to GDP ratio as it is, is unsustainable and clearly we are at a crossroads.

We have very difficult fiscal choices that we have to make that are confronting us and we cannot sit back and pretend that things are okay. I think what minister began to say today was pointing in the right direction, we have to make tough choices in order for us to gain at a later stage.
