General Council of the Bar of SA distances itself from Omotoso lawyer Daubermann

The General Council of the Bar of South Africa has issued a statement distancing itself from Defence counsel Peter Daubermann in the Timothy Omotoso trial.

Daubermann has come under fire for his cross-examination of Cherly Zondi in the witness stand. He has been labelled as aggressive, badgering and unfair.

We issued the statement because the defence attorney in the matter was widely referred to as an advocate. He is not an advocate, he is an attorney.

We felt that we should give some information on the rules of cross-examination. It was not our purpose to comment positively or negatively about his conduct.
