[LISTEN] DLCA explains backlog in drivers licence printing

The 702 Afternoon Drive team has received a string of complaints about delays in receiving their learners and drivers licences.

Acting Head at Department of Transport's Driving License Card Account (DLCA) - which is responsible for the printing of all drivers’ licences in the country - Collins Letsoalo, explains the reason behind the backlog.

He says the department had contractual issues with some of its employees.

The backlog as we speak now, is probably about 80 000. We think mid-November we should be able to make up for the backlog.

We have a service provider. They have been helping us to print the cards and train people at the same time.
