Deadline looms for Mmusi Maimane to apologise or face court action

It seems internal scandals never end in the Democratic Alliance.

The five DA councillors who resigned last week after a heated council meeting have given DA leader Mmusi Maimane until Monday 6 pm to apologise to them for his alleged accusations of tender irregularities.

Second Deputy Federal Chairperson in the Democratic Alliance Natasha Mazzone says everything is going well in the party.

Five councillors resigned in solidarity with De Lille. And headlines which I found bizarre started doing the rounds saying implosion in the DA, mass exodus with Patricia de Lille.

There are 154 councillors for the DA in the City of Cape Town. Five councillors do not imply an exodus.

In discussing the Bowman's report, she says the following.

I have not read the report enough to tell you that their names are in the report. I cannot answer on Mmusi Maimane's behalf. I would be lying if I said I have done an in-depth analysis of the report.

I am quite sure that if their names do not appear and there has been a misunderstanding, I will be the very first one to issue that apology without having being told to do so.

Meanwhile, one of the former councillors Suzette Little says Mazzone does not understand what she is talking about.

Does Mazzone know who I am? Does she know the kind of work we do in the communities? I have never seen her.

We are busy with our lawyers. We are going to go to court if he doesn't apologise by 6 pm today. We are giving him extra time because he has to consult.
