The second-ever SA Congress of Integrative Medicine will be taking place in Cape Town on 17 - 18 November.
Many patients, as well as doctors and those offering medical treatment, are looking for new solutions to chronic diseases that will not only mask symptoms but lead to full recovery.
But is integrative medicine right for you?
Dr Leila Sadien, integrative GP and conference chair explains how integrative medicine works, some of its benefits and what could be expected at the upcoming conference.
She says integrative medicine does what is best for the patient by bringing together the natural and western medicine.
The practice respects all kinds of medicines, says Sadien.
The reality is when you use natural medicine, it helps the symptoms but it also helps the rest of the body. A drug will help the symptom beautifully but usually at the cost of the rest of the body.— Dr Leila Sadien, integrative GP
The other thing about Integrative Medicine is that it is personalised for every patient to understand their difficulties which are different for everyone.— Dr Leila Sadien, integrative GP
Sadien says the conference will be attended by practitioners throughout the world under the theme “Pioneering the Future of Healthcare”.
