Gauteng Police Commissioner De Lange: I was not pushed to retire

After 35 years of service, Lieutenant General Deliwe de Lange has confirmed that she has retired from the South African Police Service and as the Gauteng Provincial Commissioner.

31 October was De Lange's last day as commissioner.

She says she has been in the service for far too long and feels it is time she spends more time with her family.

I left because I wanted to.

In June, it was reported that she was forced out of the service but that decision was reversed and she remained in her position.

The issue that took place in June, I was pushed and that is why I stood my ground and said I am not going anywhere. Now that chapter is closed and I have decided that I have done my part, we have stabilised the province - let me go to my family now and let the young ones take over.

De Lange says she will still offer her services to the province whenever they need her. She says she will be joining CPF and help fight crime because crime affects everyone.
