'I don't think you can send a crew to Mars with the intention of returning them'

The Mars One Project is already in it's early stages with the aims of sustaining a human colony on the planet within the next forty to one hundred years.

At least 100 individuals have been selected as potential candidates to form part of the experiment.

Chief Executive for Mars One Project Bas Lansdorp joined Azania to talk about the project and why he believes a crew should be sent there to stay.

Bas Lansdorp, Chief Executive for Mars One Project

Mars one is very different. We send humans there to stay.

Bas Lansdorp, Chief Executive for Mars One Project

I think everybody has some kind of interest. Some people want to go, that is a really good reason why we should do this. There is also a technology spin off, it will give us agriculture with less water and energy requirements, better recycling...
