[LISTEN] Naked Scientist: How easy is it to reverse a vasectomy?

Naked Scientist Dr Chris Smith says while it can be done, the successful reversal of a vasectomy is not a given and that men should take some time to think about it.

Vasectomy (male sterilisation) is a surgical procedure to cut or seal the tubes that carry a man's sperm to permanently prevent pregnancy.

Smith says reversing this is not easy.

With any surgery there are complications and there are short term complications but the long term complication of this is infertility, it is done for that purpose and it is not as simple as opening things up again, linking things up like two pipes that have been capped off and hoping for the best.

Chris Smith, Naked Scientist

Success rates at reversal are not a given so it can be done but it is not a given that it will be reversible. only go down that path if you think you are absolutely sure that you know what you are doing.
