The prevalence of hospital negligence gets worse

Patients must be able to count on hospitals to provide them with standard care and safety.

According to MEC for Health in Gauteng - Gwen Ramokgopa, more than 20 000 patients have been harmed in government-administered health facilities over the past 28 months.

Among other things, the reason for hospital negligence is the professionals. There is a lot of attitude of the professionals and the support stuff who work in hospitals.

The allegations of the patient that lost her child at four months, the reason is very much around the attitude of the admin stuff and other people the patient saw before she could get to the doctor.

In any healthcare facility, you deal with an emergency first and other things will follow. There is no room for anyone to be denied emergency care services, irrespective if they have the money or not.

The Life Esidimeni tragedy is the most negligent case in post-apartheid South Africa. This is not the only case and questions are being asked about why individual health workers, including nurses and doctors, as well as politicians, are almost never held personally liable.
