A robot delivery service launched in the UK

Imagine a (robot) insect that can land on a pipeline to sniff out gas leaks, swoop beneath plants to detect pests and disease, and slip into tiny spaces to find disaster survivors.

Between now and 2020, Goldman Sachs' forecasts a $100 billion market opportunity for drones, helped by growing demand from the commercial and civil government sectors.

In other news, the world’s first robot delivery service is launching in the UK.

A new service has launched in Milton Keynes in the UK that allows people to order deliveries by a robot. Residents can get parcels sent to a depot and receive a notification once they arrive. They can then get the items delivered to their door by a robot, at a time of their choosing.

These robots are able to cross the road and work their way around people or animals thanks to ultrasonic sensors, nine cameras, radar, and GPS.

And finally, the best-selling crime author James Patterson has released an interactive thriller novel on Facebook Messenger, and instead of turning a page, the only way to progress through the story is by clicking the knife emoji.

Want to dig in? Patterson's novel The Chef has been sitting in wait on Messenger since Oct. 30, but the hard copy is not due out until Feb. 2019. All you have to do is hit "send message" to the Facebook page for The Chef by James Patterson to get started.
